How to Install Gimp on your Chromebook


Warning: Make sure to follow this guide thoroughly, failure to do so may result in irrecoverable damage to your data. This is highly unlikely to happen though but follow the guide thoroughly.

Warning 2: Do not use or follow this guide if you are planning to use a school or organization owned device! Do not use or follow this guide on a device you do not have permission to modify!


Description:

Gimp is an open source photo editor. Gimp is very similar to Adobe Photoshop, though it has fewer features it is an excellent photo editor for basic projects. Gimp runs well on most hardware, and it is free to use.

Directions:

Step 1: Open the terminal and type in, "sudo apt-get upgrade -y" and press enter.

Tip: To paste commands into the command line, just right-click

Step 2: Type in, "sudo apt install gimp -y" and press enter.

Step 3: Open the Chrome OS files app. Right-click on any image you have and select, "Open with..." and then, "change default".

Step 4: Select, "GNU Manipulation Program", this sets your Chromebook to use Gimp to open an image by default. You can always right-click, select "Open with" and choose a different app to open your images.
